Art Zoo Museum is an initiative of the Vrije Academie, a renowned name in art, culture, science, and philosophy education for over 35 years.
This collaboration allows us to offer a diverse range of activities, from workshops in our atelier to exceptional guided tours.

MUSEUM GUIDED TOURS
Our professional educators lead groups through Art Zoo Museum, bringing the artworks to life. Along the way, they uncover the wondrous discoveries of explorers past and present, surprising details and creative processes, Darwin's theory of evolution, and the fascinating relationship between humans and animals.
Our tours are interactive, age-appropriate, and designed to spark curiosity and wonder. Every guided tour includes entrance to the museum and a complimentary drink.

LECTURES
At Art Zoo Museum, our lectures take you beyond the ordinary — where art, nature, and history collide in the rooms of a stunning 17th-century canal house. Here are two examples of what we offer:
Art Zoo Museum Lecture — Step inside a modern Wunderkammer. Parrots, a mammoth foot, a T-rex. Discover how artists Darwin, Sinke & Van Tongeren fill these historic rooms with wonder, and why Rembrandt would have felt right at home.

RELICS Lecture — Fossils as art. Bones as belief. Lecturer Martijn Pieters unravels the mysterious connection between prehistoric remains, baroque grandeur and the Catholic tradition of relics. A lecture that will change the way you see time, beauty and what we leave behind.

WORKSHOPS
From drawing insects and painting botanicals, to writing poetry about animals and studying their anatomy — the Vrije Academie regularly organises workshops connected to the natural world. Roll up your sleeves and spend a full day or half day creating — phone away, hands at work.
